SalsaRueda Instructors
Russ Hamer

Russ Hamer has been teaching Salsa for 15 years, and Casino Rueda for more than 10 years in the the San Francisco Bay Area and around the world. He has studied Casino Rueda intensively with Cuban dancers here in the Bay Area, with Miami-trained instructors in LA, in several Rueda schools in Miami and in private classes in Havana, Cuba. Russ introduced Miami-Style Casino Rueda to the SF Bay Area 10 years ago, and has been teaching this exciting style ever since. He has also taught Rueda workshops all over Northern California, in Seattle, in Arizona, in Switzerland and in Australia. Russ' classes are always fun! He places great emphasis on clear instruction, breaking down moves so they can be learned more easily and quickly. Russ also specializes in individualized instruction for any level dancer, with an emphasis on strong rhythm, an appreciation of the great AfroCuban music used in the classes, and musicality in the dance movements. In addition, Russ has trained many instructors in the San Francisco Bay area. Dawn Cecilia

Dawn Cecilia has been teaching with Russ Hamer for the past three years (we teach 2 circles--levels of dancers--at the same time). Prior to that, she taught introductory and beginning Rueda de Casino at Rhythm & Motion with Sidney Weaverling. Dawn studied with a number of fantastic teachers, including: (in San Francisco) Russ Hamer, Sidney Weaverling, Ramon Ramos Alayo, Alain Soto, Leyder Chapman; (in Miami) Henry Herrera (SalsaRacing.com), Zumel Michel, Elba Diaz (thesalsakings.com); (in Cuba) Fraudy Megret (principal for Ban Rarra), Isaiah Rojas (director of Ban Rarra); Rafael Guttierez (Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba, and director, choreographer among other things). She has been to Cuba six times in the past three years (about 5 months' worth of intensive training), and has also danced in New York, Washington DC (at the Kennedy Center, no less!), and in Vancouver as an instructor at the 2004 Casino Rueda congress. She has also appeared in several Cuba and Casino-related videos produced by local and LA-based filmmakers. Dawn has her own website (http://www.nycecilia.com/), and can be reached through it or by emailing her at nycecilia@yahoo.com

The SalsaRueda Team

In addition to Russ, there is a team of intructors that participate in classes throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. All SalsaRueda instructors have been trained to offer students a unique dance learning experience. Our instruction emphasizes rhythm and musicality, and fun! All SalsaRueda instructors have been trained how to lead and follow each move, so that the classes focus equally on leaders and followers skills. SalsaRueda instructors offer a clarity of teaching style, with all moves clearly broken down within the timing of the music. In our teaching experience, we have developed many "tricks" for both leaders and followers that can turn a difficult move into an easy move. Such "tricks" help leaders and followers to learn quickly, and to remember even the most complex moves. This approach is made even more effective because SalsaRueda instructors teach "groups" of moves that are related to each other, thus facilitating further learning and remembering the moves.
